Equity and Merit Scholarships for students from Bangladesh
Equity and Merit Scholarships are available to support students from Bangladesh doing either a full-time campus-based postgraduate taught Masters degree or a Masters degree by distance learning.
Full-time campus-based postgraduate taught Masters
The University is offering four scholarships to applicants from Bangladesh starting in September 2012. The scholarships cover full tuition fees, return international airfares and living expenses.
Eligibility
The scholarships are aimed at applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Applicants who are interested in science and engineering courses must have a bachelors degree from a public university with a minimum overall score of 70%. Applicants who are interested in education and social sciences courses must have a Masters degree from a public university with a minimum overall score of 55%.
Applicants must also:
Be a resident citizen of Bangladesh and have not previously studied abroad;
Have a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5.
Subjects
Scholarships are available in a wide range of subjects including Engineering, Environment, Medical and Life Sciences, and Education.

How to apply
The selection process is managed locally by the British Council, Dhaka on behalf of the University. Application forms can be obtained from:

Sylhet – Al-Hamra Shopping City, Level 6, Zindabazar, Sylhet;
or you can download a copy below. You cannot save a completed copy of the form on your computer. Please fill it in then print it out, attach a photo and return it by post to the address below.

The deadline for applications is 10 December 2011. Please write “University of Manchester, Equity and Merit Scholarships 2012/13″ on the top of the envelope. Applications received after this date will not be processed. We regret that we will not be able to contact unsuccessful applicants. Applicants who have not heard from us by mid-February 2012 should assume that they have not been successful.
Masters degrees by distance learning
In 2012/13 scholarships are available for the following distance learning programmes:
Master of Public Health (MPH) (Open for applications in 2012 – date to be confirmed)
MSc Human Resource Management and Development (Open for applications September 2012)
MSc Management and Information Systems (Open for applications September 2012)
Scholarships cover all tuition fees, course materials and examinations. For online courses students will need regular access to a computer with an internet connection, and a basic level of computer skills is required.
Eligibility
The scholarships are aimed at applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds. Applicants must:
Be a resident citizen of Bangladesh and have not previously studied abroad;
Hold a first or upper second class (or the equivalent) undergraduate degree;
Have a minimum of two years relevant work experience;
Be committed to returning home and able to demonstrate the potential to make a positive impact on the future of Bangladesh;
Have a clear idea how studying in the UK would benefit both his/her career and the development of Bangladesh;
Meet the specified English language requirements for the relevant course.
How to apply
The Master of Public Health degree starts in September 2012. We will accept applications for scholarships from January 2012. Full details of how to apply will be published at a later date.
