Post Graduate Scholarship for Kenyans at The University Manchester UK

Introduction

The University of Manchester has enjoyed a close association with Kenya for a number of years. We are one of the UK’s most popular destinations for Kenyan students and have an active African Society. We are committed to supporting education in Kenya and have provided a free place to two Kenyan students in each of the last four years as part of the prestigious Kenyan President’s Award supported by NCUK.

We currently have 73 Kenyan students at the University. Kenyans apply across the full range of courses available at Manchester. The following fields of study are particularly popular with our Kenyan students:

Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering

Entry requirements
General requirements for undergraduate courses

If you have taken your KCSEs but have no further qualification, you will need to take a foundation course before you will eligible for entry to an undergraduate programme at The University of Manchester.

The University of Manchester also recommends the NCUK Foundation Programme in Kenya.

Many students in Kenya will follow a GCSE + A levels system. If made an offer, Kenyans studying A levels are likely to be offered the same grades as for UK students. Details of the anticipated A level grades can be found under each course listing.

Students in Kenya can also follow an IB route. If made an offer, Kenyans studying IB are likely to be offered the same grades as for UK students.
General requirements for postgraduate/research courses

For entry on to a postgraduate progamme students will normally be expected to have achieved a 2:1 (60%+, B average) in their bachelor degree.
English language requirements

Students with a C or above in their KCSE or GCSE English qualification are generally considered to have passed the English requirement for programmes at Manchester.

Please note some programmes may ask for a higher grade.
Other entry requirements

Please note that this is generic information only. Faculties and Schools have different entry requirements and some qualifications may not be acceptable for certain courses, so it is important to check with the School directly before you apply.

Some courses have additional entry requirements such as previous work experience, submission of written work with the application or previous study of a particular subject.

The British Council has offices in many countries around the world, including Kenya, which can provide you with advice about studying in the UK.

Most offices also have an education library and internet facilities where you can consult university material and receive advice about funding opportunities.

Immigration information

This is a notice that The British High Commission placed in The Daily Nation on Wednesday 20 June.

On 11 July 2007, VFS GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED will take over as the British High Commission’s commercial partner, handling all visa applications.

From this date, all visa applications must be made a the new VISA APPLICATION CENTRE (VAC).

Restricted visa services: 11-20 July

To facilitate the change of commercial partner, a restricted visa service will operate between 11-20 July. Visa applications should only be made during these periods if travel is essential.
